Books
Recommended Reading:
- Alan Jamieson - Journeying in Faith.
One of the best books I have read on our journey with God. For all those who are not satisfied with trite answers or who wonder if in the quest for simplicity we haven’t got a bit simplistic.
Read it!
Brian McLaren - A Generous Orthodoxy.
A clarion call for emerging church, in my opinion. McLaren calls us to appreciate the good from many different streams of Christian Faith.
His best book yet?
Richard Rohr - Wild Man’s Journey.
Pretty much any book by Rohr is worth reading, but this is a fascinating book on male spirituality, charting the journey men must go through life, to become a “grand-father”, and father who is grand! There is an updated version of this book, and another (Adam’s return) that is very similar.
Richard Rohr - Everything Belongs.
A very well read friend of mine said this was one of the books he had read, and he wasn’t wrong. In fact, I have only read the first few pages, and I am still reflecting and working with that: worth the price of the book just for that part.
On the go:
Here are some of the books I am currently reading or browsing.
- Dallas Willard - The Great Omission: reclaiming Jesus’ essential teaching on discipleship.
This along with other books are imforming my thinking on the crucial need for spiritual formation in churches today.
Eddie Gibbs and Ryan Bolger - Emerging Churches: creating christian communities in postmodern culture.
The handbook on emerging church, from two authors who have done thier research on emerging churches in the UK and the US.
