I have been tagged by a couple of people (Duncan and Heidi ) on the meme that is flying around the blogosphere on “8 things about me”. I have been pretty slow in responding, partly other things going on, partly I managed to spill a whole cup of coffee on a brand new laptop (I had it for less than 2 days) which required some pretty quick remedial action, and partly I feel a little ambivalent about these tags that fly around the net.
On reflection, I appreciate being tagged, but I don’t like tagging others … so I am going to participate, but not tag others. I you wish to participate then add a comment and I will amend the post with you name…
So here goes, 8 things that you might not know about me:
-
If I had been a girl I would have been called Victoria … as it was my cousin, who was born 2 weeks later than me, was a girl (and I wasn’t!) and was called Victoria.
-
I was nearly called Maxamillion … but my parents chose Rupert instead. Lucky excape - what do you think?
-
My middle names are my two grandfathers Christian names, but are VERY unusual… the initials are V. and G. … any guesses?
-
When I was younger I wanted to play cricket for England … I got as far as playing for Suffolk Under 17s…
-
I met Jesus, or probably better to say Jesus met me while I was living in Pakistan…
-
I originally started studying maths at university, but eventually changed to do theology … apparently a reasonalby common transition!
-
I dreamed to being a barrister when I was young. Never in my wildest imagination did I think I would become a church leader!
-
My wife and I went to South Africa for honeymoon. It felt as though we were going home, despite never having been there before … we are wondering if God will ever take us back there?
So anyone else wish to go next?
1/ I love Johnny Cash
2/ One of my favourite lines in a film is “well this sucks”. This is a comment from one of the penguins in Madagascar upon returning home to Antartica
3/ I wanted to be a pastor. I tried twice. Very glad it didn’t work out
4/ My first name is Thomas, but I am called Brian
5/ Was at a fantastic Bob Marley and the Wailers gig in 1982 at the Apollo in Glasgow
6/ Met Jesus when I was 8. My father helped me meet him. He was called Moses and he was a CoS minister
7/At University I studied Mechanical Engineering (boke) and became a Chartered Engineer in the Institute of Measurement & Control. My present career is in a completely different field
8/ Spent 3 & half hours in the chill tent at the Isle of Skye Music festival. Fantastic
thanks Brian - great list …
What a fantastic thing to have a dad who was a C of S minister called “moses”
intriguing list, thank you
i’m all outed on meme’s at the mo but i think i’ve done a couple of similar ones on the ol blog of late.
thanks Paul … there are a few floating around at the moment…
Your middle names…. Victor and Gabriel?
we think one of your middle names is Valentine …?
I’m pretty sure the V is Vernon
No - none of you are quite right yet…
I’ll give you a clue …
V = is a girls name and a boy’s name (spelt differently - mine with the boy’s spelling!) … but the girls name is much more common…
G = i’ll be surprised if anyone gets this … there is a small scotish town in east lothian with the same name (although spelt differently)…
Vivan/Vivien
Gifford
I was going to be called Victoria as well if I was a girl - so there you go!
By the way - thanks for the preach yesterday - won’t say I enjoyed it, but was appreciated.
Ha ha. Did you know Matthew, or did you guess from my clues?
Thanks TOny - i would be interested in your further thoughts … I have posted a summary in another post…
