fred drummondToday, at church, we had Fred Drummond, General Secretary of EA in Scotland speaking on “Missional Church”. He was a church of Scotland minister in Perth that completely transformed his church from a city centre church that attracted Christians because it was cooler than the other church next door, to a missional church in a poor housing scheme in Perth.

One of the key things he said right at the end, almost as a throw away comment, what the church as we know it is dying, but a church that we can’t even dream about will take its place. A church that cares for and offers hope to those who are suffering or in pain … who are living in the valley.

You should be able to download the MP3 here in a few days (probably Wednesday) if you missed it.

If you were there (or can be bothered to listen to the MP3) I would be really interested in hearing your views on what he said.

What did you think? Were you inspired? Challenged? Did you agree or disagree with him?

I did find it inspiring, i think he really re-enforced the emphasis on getting with God’s agenda, not coming with ours, that seems to me to be something that has been a thread over the past month or so, especially as we talk about the plans for the Kings Hall etc. I guess its something that God has been speaking to me personally about. i go home on Thursday till the end of September, there is very little in the way of fellowship and church in that area, and i guess i’ve been thinking more about how i can be Jesus to the people there, how can i stay strong and try and strengthen others too? i felt really encouraged this Sunday, as i have done the last few, to open my eyes and see what God is already doing, and get excited and involved in it!
the church in my home area seems to be on its last legs, it is encouraging to think that there may be something to take its place, something that will put some life back into the community and get involved and demonstrate the love and passion of God. it really is quite depressing to see it in the state that it is, i really pray that God would inject life and hope!!
hmm, maybe a bit off the point…

Hi Mairi - thanks for the comment. I found it inspiring too … somehow it became it little more possible, and probably a bit more intimidating!

I hope you have a good time away over the summer … do keep popping in here to keep up with what is going on in church, and look forward to you being back after the summer. I can’t believe i am saying that when it is still only May!
