It’s been a busy week. Good but busy. Been meeting people; a meeting of other church leaders in Edinburgh with CU leaders; preparing a brochure on our church building project for an offering we taking towards the costs in a couple of weeks time; further planning of a counselling service we are moving towards setting up; catching up on emails; responding to comments on the vision and community day we had last Saturday (keep them coming … I would love to hear your thoughts coming out of the day we had together).
So blogging has taken a bit of backseat this week. But here are a few random things at the end of the week:
1. I have joined facebook, partly at Paul’s initiation, but also at a student team meeting we were talking about facebook the other day. It is a social networking venture, but a great way of connecting with people. I feel a bit old, but good to see my mate Lynn Swart there too, so not the oldest! (sorry Lynn!). If you want me as your friend then you can invite me to be your friend by adding my email address (rupert dot ward AT blueyonder dot co dot uk) here … and hey presto we are connected (assuming of course that I agree to your invitation.
2. Paul also tagged me a few weeks ago for being a “thinking blogger” … very kind of him, but I think that was only because the usual suspects had already been tagged! But the rules, I should have mentioned some bloggers who get me thinking, but I would probably nominate the usual people too! Suffice to say that Paul himself, Alastair, Duncan, Paul Ede, Tony, Emergent Voyageurs, Jesus Creed would have pretty high up on my list. But now I am thinking that maybe I have just chosen my friends and one or two others, so what about: Be the Revolution, Swinging from the vine, Naked Pastor, SmuloSpace, Next Reformation, BobBlog … Now I remember why I didn’t respond to Paul at the time. Just too many to choose (and I wouldn’t want to leave anyone out) so just check my links …
3. And for a bit of light weekend relief, thanks to toggietales, I have discovered that a little favourite cartoon of mine is available free online: “God, the devil and Bob “. It is splendidly irreverent, but funny and perceptive at the same time. Check it out (if you aren’t easily offended!).

Honoured to make the list! Thanks.
Peace,
Jamie
Honoured that you would comment Jamie.
Thanks for visiting and all the great thought provoking stuff you write on your blog.
Thanks for the mention, Rupert. Do I have to do anything in response? Like am I now meant to nominate thinking bloggers as well?
Pleasure Alastair … i enjoy the interactions with you. Very thought provoking …
You don’t have to all … but if you did want to nominate 5 “thinking Bloggers” you can find the info at Paul’s …
Thanks a lot for putting me on the list! I’ll add my five soon.
PS I’ve always wanted to use an emoticon that looks like this
and this
John - thanks so much for popping in and leaving a comment. If i remember rightly you have already nominated 5 a couple of times, so i think you could be excused …
Love the emoticons … i can never think of a context to use most of them

i’ll be looking out for your facebook invite then
and super links
I’ll always be your friend on facebook.
I think this post is just an excuse for everyone to use these emoticons
Hey Rupert, thanks for sticking up for me, I really appreciate it. Love your blog it makes both Tracy and I think, especially the stuff on missional church. The way your walking and what you are trying to model is very inspirational, thanks mate.
Brian - very cool in standing up for you. I really hate it when people are critical with leaving thier name!
Thanks for the encouragement re. my blog. I am enjoying it too…
Rupert, thanks if you meant me LOL as the link goes elsewhere. And if I’ve been too arrogant to think it was me when it’s not please forgive me!
Good to see you made it on to Facebook. I’m on there as it’s one of the easiest ways to communicate with the students, which is my current area of “ministry”. However, I, along with others, are recognising that the early 20’s and teens are finding it a bit spooky that all these old people are creeping on to Facebook - perhaps it’s becoming not so cool after all………..
Duncan, thanks for pointing out the wrong link - link duly changed. It was you indeed, but suppose i could find some other duncan ….
Yes, i see some of the students in our church have joined a group called something like “get all the older people off facebook!!” Oh well…
I am enjoying the connecting there … so hope they don’t all migrate somewhere else …
And now you are no longer the oldest member of the CCE Facebook group … I think I take that honour.
Remember the Muppet Show (you might be just old enough)? Maybe in the rejigged Kings Hall you could give us old folk a private box, stage left, like Stadtler and Waldorf?
Seriously, since joining facebook when I was sent a “be my friend” request, I have been careful not to send “be my friend” requests to most of the younger people I know because, well, how do you say “no” politely to keep the Stadtlers and Waldorfs off your circle?
It is an interesting analysis to do - age distribution of facebook membership in Edinburgh. Total membership 15,000, the majority are 18-30, with a fair number up to about 43 … after which you might as well not exist.
It’s also interesting how he concept of “friend” is changing, and facebook and the other lookalikes play a part in that …
Neil
thanks for the comment Neil. I will be your facebook friend … i would be honoured!
I do just remember the muppets, but wasn’t really into them that much. I do remember the box though … i can see it in the revamped king’s hall!
