Climate Challenge: Can you do better?

climate change

If you have a spare few minutes, try this Climate Challenge by the BBC. You become leader of a United Europe (are they making a political point here?) and have to balance differing demands for money, popularity, food, water, power, and your carbon emissions. As the environment is top of my thinking at the moment, and as it is much clearer how well you doing in this area, rather than the economy, I think I neglected making the figures work. So I saved the world, but plunged a whole continent into recession and poverty. Mmmm! Can you do any better?

    wow, that’s awesome
I’ve been playing all afternoon now.
How did you get to be popular and leave your economy in ruins.
    Great spin!
But glad you saved the planet!
I save the planet, leave the economy in ruins AND everyone hates me.
    hehe

  2. Rupert Ward says:

Good one David … made me laugh!

I had another go today, trying to do a bit better on the economy, and good booted out of office after a few years. Apparently i didn’t do well enough!

I found a few bribes worked well to keep people happy despite the economy going down the drain!

  3. David says:

I don’t know how realistic it is, but it does give some perspective of how hard it is to try and create change on a massive scale.
Which is why a grassroots effort is so important. If the government can’t dictate culture, then culture should dictate the government.

    I heard that somewhere.
I had some friends try it and they all had the same problems

  4. Rupert Ward says:

I agree about grassroots change david. Thanks.

  5. Dan Frydman says:

Tricky – didn’t realise that water was such an issue.

    Environment 59%
    Wealth 4%
    Popularity 100%

Will try again to get some more money and less popularity . . .
